Role Purpose
As brain injury mentor, you will enable brain injury survivors to participate to the full extent of their abilities across the scope of our bespoke 1:1 and programmed activities, and to be socially engaged within the services we offer. At Headway Derby we provide opportunities for survivors of brain injury, their carers and families to access peer-support, re-learn lost skills and cultivate new ones; to regain confidence and self-esteem; to reduce isolation; to increase independent living and to build new social networks.
Main Tasks: This role brings varied tasks and interventions online, over the phone, and predominantly face to face including:
- Giving members and visitors some one-to-one time or encouraging group interaction
- Supporting members with development activities in their homes and local communities in support of their care plan
- Supporting individuals to express themselves in a way most suitable to their unique needs
- Assisting with organized trips out
- Creating stimulating conversation and motivating people to make their own decisions about how they are going to use the session / day / week
- Organizing and facilitating group activities such as quizzes, discussion groups, powerpoints, playlists and games
- Organizing activities that draw on your own interests and talents such as art and craft, creative writing, outdoor activities, music, sports etc. in conjunction with other colleagues
- Updating members individual folders with updated core information, plans, Rediscovering My Brain Model© progress, evidence
- Commit to keep accurate hard copy and one drive records and submit these records in a timely manner when requested
- To inform the Safeguarding Lead of any safeguarding concerns or incidents
Location: Headway Derby Brain Injury Hub, Headway Derby Allotment Garden, In members Homes, Out in the Community, Digital Platforms
Working with: As a Brain Injury Mentor you will liaise closely with the Service Delivery Coordinator; as well as the Service Manager, Trustees, other Staff, Bank Workers and Volunteers. (We use the term ‘colleagues’ to collectively describe Management, Staff, Student Placements, Self Employed Bank Workers and Volunteers etc.)
**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 14 per week
**Salary**: £10.50 per hour
