London, United Kingdom Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We are currently recruiting for anAcute Medicine Ultrasound & Education Fellowto provide training across London. This is a fully supervised one year fixed term ‘out of programme’ post, based at West Middlesex University Hospital.

Acute Internal Medicine (AIM) training in London occurs between three geographical areas (North Central & East London, North West London and South London), with 35 trainees in the sector. Recently, the AIM curriculum has been revised and now includes point of care ultrasound (POCUS) as a core component for gaining the Certificate for Completion of Training (CCT).

This fellowship has been designed primarily to support trainees on the new curriculum and to design, deliver and embed a robust system for providing London-wide POCUS training for AIM trainees. The fellow will also support the London-wide regional AIM training days. The fellow will be supported by the three London AIM TPDs, two of whom work within the West Middlesex AMU.

Roles & Responsibilities

The AIM education, training and development fellow is responsible for teaching and development of the community of AIM trainees in London. They work closely with the Training Programme Directors (TPDs) in order to create a bespoke and dynamic POCUS training programme. In addition, they act as a central point of liaison and support for the London AIM regional training days. They are responsible for gathering feedback and information on issues with training, and planning future development strategies.

**Other roles and responsibilities include**:

- Organising and acting as faculty of various courses held in the postgraduate department. These include ‘Leadership and Management’ and ‘Teach the Teacher’ courses
- Supporting wellbeing activities
- Attending and presenting at a wide range of educational conferences (local, national and international)

We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We’re one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for - our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex - in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.

The post holder will have a regular schedule of teaching commitments, including opportunities to develop and deliver small group teaching, simulation, lecture based teaching and courses.

The post holder will also have the opportunity to participate in the wide range of Trust-based medical education and training programmes delivered at different clinical levels, supported by the educational leads. The post holder will be encouraged to collaborate in developing and delivering new clinical courses that are identified during the course of the placement.

Educational Research
The post holder will have the opportunity to take part in a range of educational research activities, centred on the training of Postgraduate doctors, but including other groups of learners. These options are aligned with existing research activity and include (but are not confined to) the following:

- Evaluation of student or doctor teaching programmes within the Trust
- Multidisciplinary teaching and learning
- Developing ‘patient-focused simulation’ (hybrid combinations of inanimate simulators with professional actors) within postgraduate education and assessment
- Exploring the concept of ‘excellence’ in teaching
- Clinical skills acquisition
- Wellbeing
- Exploration of patient safety attitudes within the trust

It is anticipated that the post holder will generate publishable outputs, including conference presentations and publications in peer reviewed medical and educational journals.
