Detailed job description and main responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

Primary role is within the Endoscopy NUH decontamination areas, responsible for decontamination of flexible endoscopes under legislation and trust policy/guidelines.

Required to carry out a number of designated tasks in support of and under the supervision of Decontamination Manager.

Work as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team.

Following appropriate training and assessment

The post holder is not required to hold statutory qualifications.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITES

Clinical

This will include: To undertake decontamination duties and assist in providing specialised decontamination of flexible endoscopes for Endoscopy NUH and end user groups.

To carry out the receipt, manual cleaning and automatic reprocessing, storing and packing of flexible endoscopes as per decontamination guidelines and legislation. Record all tasks on the electronic track and traceability system.

To perform all tasks relevant to decontamination quality and assurance and ensure practices are adhered to across the team.

Work in accordance and update the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures and Risk assessments.

To provide supervision to trainee Decontamination Technicians and clinical staff within the team and end user groups.

Plan your own workload with limited supervision.

The role involves exposure to COSHH, blood and body fluids.

To adhere to stringent health and safety standards.

Make verbal reports to senior nursing staff regarding the decontamination service in the ward as necessary, following this up with written documentation as needed.

Ensure that patients are helped to retain their dignity and individuality.

Report back to registered staff all concerns about decontamination services.

Be aware of the need for confidentiality both in the written and spoken word.

Comply with all Trust policies with particular regard to the policies and procedures carried out in the event of maintaining staff and patient safety.

Report all accidents and untoward incidents to the decontamination manager of the area and complete an incident form in accordance with Trust policy.

Report problems with equipment and facilities to the Decontamination manager.

Be prepared to attend and undertake any necessary training, being aware of the need to develop oneself and to strive to increase personal knowledge.

Undertake any ‘Working in New Ways Packages’, which have been identified by the Decontamination Manager and are integral to the role requirements and specialty area. Under normal circumstances these must be completed in accordance with the ‘Working in New Way’s Policy and Guidelines
- Directorate specific Clinical responsibilities_

Work as part of Endoscopy NUH decontamination team which also includes cross site redeployment at short notice as required. Participate in weekend working to meet service demands.

Housekeeping

Assist in unpacking, checking and storing supplies delivered to the area, reporting when stocks are low.

Keep decontamination and clinical areas safe, clean and tidy.

General

Carry out expected role without the need for constant supervision although recognising limitations and seeking direction when necessary. Carry out any other necessary delegated tasks as appropriate.

Use initiative in planning daily and weekly routines.

Maintain good communication with other staff,
