We believe that nutritious, well-prepared meals are an essential part of our residents' well-being and quality of life. We are looking for a dedicated and experienced **Relief Cook** to join our team within our Weston View Care Home in Keith, Moray and contribute to the health and happiness of our residents.
As a Relief Cook you will be responsible for the preparation of wholesome meals that meet the dietary needs of our residents, ensuring compliance with relevant Health & Safety and Food Hygiene requirements.
**Your key responsibilities are**:
- Plan and create well-balanced, nutritious menus that cater to the dietary requirements and preferences of residents.
- Prepare and cook meals, with attention to texture, flavour and nutritional value and customise meals to accommodate specific dietary restrictions, allergies, or special requirements of individual residents, respecting individual preferences.
- Monitor and control portion sizes to meet nutritional guidelines and accommodate varying dietary needs of residents.
- Strictly adhere to hygiene and safety protocols, maintaining a clean and sanitised kitchen environment to uphold the health and well-being of residents.
- Ensure your own personal hygiene is of the highest standard.
- Maintain and control stock, equipment and materials.
- Foster open communication with residents and care staff to gather feedback on meals and make adjustments as necessary.
- Work alongside the Care Home Manager so as to continually foster improvements in service.
- Maintain accurate records of temperature checks, meal plans, food inventory, and resident dietary preferences, facilitating efficient kitchen operations.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of special events within the care home, ensuring residents enjoy celebratory meals.
- Working within the Parkland’s policies and procedures, relevant legislation and good practice guidance.
- Be familiar with Violent Incident and Accident reporting procedures and comply with them.
- Attend mandatory training in Moving and Handling, Health and Safety, Fire Regulations, Food Hygiene, Infection Control and First Aid, as appropriate to the job.
- Taking account of the Health and Social Care standards.
**Experience**
- Previous experience as a Cook or similar role, preferably in a care home, healthcare, or similar setting.
- Knowledge of dietary needs and nutritional requirements of elderly individuals.
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Certification in Food Safety and Hygiene is preferred.
**Physical Requirements**
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items, up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to handle hot and cold food items safely.
