Family Support Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers who have up to a couple of hours to spare each week or fortnight to offer friendly, practical and emotional support to local families. Initial training is provided, (online modules that can be completed at home, in your own time within a timeframe), and we meet face-to-face at the end of training, so you have the opportunity to meet your Ruby's Family Support Co-ordinator as well as other volunteers. Ongoing training and support will be provided. This is a flexible role where you might offer support in-person in the family home, at a children's centre or other venue or over the telephone (as a telephone Befriender). Our families need support with a wide range of issues including loneliness and social isolation, first time parenting and/or parenting alone, mental ill health, caring for a child with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We aim for this role to be as rewarding for our volunteers as it is helpful to our families.

**Responsibilities/role description**

Provide guidance, practical and emotional support, empowering the family to be independent and make decisions/take actions for themselves.

Make notes and report back after your contact with the family.

Be constantly vigilant of possible safeguarding concerns and take appropriate action in accordance with your training.

Undergo all training and supervision as required by Ruby’s.
