Help uphold the standards of complex research trials.

The University of Southampton is a research-intensive university and a founding member of the Russell Group. Our successes are acknowledged in international and UK league table rankings. The Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 assessed 92 per cent of our research as world leading or internationally excellent and rated us in the top 10 per cent of UK universities for impact.

In this new role, you will be a key member of our friendly Research Ethics and Governance team which is part of the Research and Innovation Services Team. The RIS team works with researchers through the entire research journey from funding to knowledge transfer to commerciaisation.

You will have an active part to play in supporting both regulated clinical and non-clinical research involving human participants and their data. The range of studies you touch range from the exploration of new drugs for terminal diseases, through to behavioural and psychological research. Ultimately, you will help to make sure all research and trials achieve the highest standards and comply with regulatory and University requirements.

You will provide ongoing advice and support to the University Faculty Ethics Committee members and the wider research community. The role will work to promote consistency with ethics reviews and the implementation of local guidance across the University. In helping to manage studies, you will have the advantage of the University’s award winning ethics and governance platform (ERGO II). Along the way, you will help the team develop policies and procedures, deliver training and create relevant and information resources.

In addition, you will have an opportunity to use and further develop both your leadership and people management skills as this role includes line management responsibilities.

We offer great training and ongoing development to equip you for success, so you do not need a significant level of relevant experience to join us in this role. You should at minimum demonstrate an understanding of research ethics, research governance and an awareness of the clinical trial regulatory environment. Experience in the health or higher education sector would be a real advantage. An exceptionally organised individual, your flair for time management is matched by your proactive approach. In addition to plenty of initiative and a real desire to progress your career in this field, you will demonstrate genuine collaborative spirit and excellent communication skills.

We are committed to creating an environment where people can balance successful careers with their commitments and interests outside of work. Our flexible working practices, include a hybrid working model, where employees can split their working time between the office and home.

In return for your dedication, you will enjoy plenty of scope to grow and thrive within a welcoming and professional team that shares your commitment to high standards and customer service.**Further details**:
