You will be based at the main campus of the University within the **Institute of Life Course and Medical Sciences** and also within CIMA, at the Gait Laboratory. Gait Lab research focusses on gait control and biomechanics in human ageing, and in the biomechanics of gait in other animals.- You will have the ambition to develop your expertise in the analysis of the biomechanics and cognitive control of gait; in computer programming (Matlab, Python, C++) data management and system administration. You will be encouraged to pursue and support research and publication in collaboration with Gait Lab staff and students, as well as with other colleagues in ILCaMS. Key responsibilities include:
Working under the guidance of the researchers supporting and developing individual projects and ensuring operational day-to-day progress of the lab research- Developing required software routines for data acquisition and analysis- Taking responsibility, under the guidance of the lead researchers for acquiring, analysing and interpreting data and presenting findings verbally and in original publications- Contributing to day-to-day decisions on matters that affect the research progress and that of the team- Present information on research progress and outcomes to research sponsors and the research group- The Gait Lab is a 22 x 15 x 3 metre purpose designed space, which allows locomotion to be analysed in many different ways at up to running speeds and on a variety of supports. Equipment includes 12 Qualisys Oqus 7+ Motion Capture cameras, a Kistler Gaitway force-plate instrumented treadmill and a Zebris FDMT pressure sensitive treadmill, 3 Kistler 9281 B forceplates in a 3 x 3 flush mounted array pit, 32 Trigno IM Inertial/IM sensors, Cosmed K4B2 breath by breath respirometry, Cybex Humac Norm Dynamometer and wall mounted 6-DOF forcepole. Adjacent to the Gait Lab is our biplanar x-ray facility, and we have 120 rack-mounted compute cores. You will be responsible for facilitating access to and use of all this equipment; developing its integration e.g. via Visual 3D and Matlab, and acting as Data Manager for the lab, ensuring compliance with University and Research Council UK requirements.- Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
