**Job summary**:
Based within the Strategy directorate, in the Secretary of State’s Implementation Unit (IU), you will have the opportunity to work at the heart of strategic policy making and implementation within Government, working closely with ministers and the Executive Team, and influencing the lives of millions of customers.

The IU’s purpose is to work closely with the Secretary of State to interrogate delivery of the Department’s strategic priorities. This will include: tracking progress of priorities agreed with Ministers; working jointly with officials in HMT, No10 and the Cabinet Office to share and interrogate delivery reporting; and lead targeted projects (‘deep dives’) where further delivery insight is required to identify issues or accelerate progress.

**The post holder will be responsible for**:
Working with ministers, senior officials and wider Government stakeholders to assure delivery of key Departmental priorities.

Leading assurance work on a junior ministerial portfolio (e.g. Minister for Disabled People, Work and Health) with responsibility for coordinating advice in advance of weekly stocktakes on progress with the ministerial team.

Maintaining a wider understanding of the wider strategic context and supporting activity across the wider Strategy directorate.

**To do so you will need to**:
Build a strong understanding of the delivery context for priority areas and feed in delivery expertise to departmental monitoring of those areas.

Work with Private Office to ensure that Ministers are kept abreast of progress (particularly in addressing implementation issues/barriers).

Coordinate deep dives into implementation issues to support performance improvement alongside routine work; leading on the scoping and delivery of projects using appropriate methodologies.

Build positive connections across teams at working and senior levels, and to manage and resolve tensions to support delivery.

Work in an agile way to respond to emerging issues to ensure that these are addressed in a timely way.

Maintain a good understanding of the strategic context and ensure that activity aligns with wider departmental priorities.

Support the ongoing development of the IU, including through further strengthening a learning and development culture in pushing the boundaries of traditional IU methodologies to reflect business needs.
