There are two ECT suites within Nottinghamshire Healthcare, one based at Blossomwood Mental Health Unit in Mansfield and another at the Queens Medical Centre, Lenton, Nottingham. This role is support the delivery of treatment. We have two 8 hour posts available at QMC ECT suite and 19 hours available at Blossomwood.

The role at Blossomwood also includes a depot and clozapine clinic run out of the ECT suite.

Open to all registered nurses.

The service is part of the Adult Mental Health directorate of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, but will deliver treatment to all service users of the Trust for whom these interventions are the appropriate clinical treatment option.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust deliver mental health services to all individuals requiring the involvement of secondary mental health services across Nottinghamshire in a variety of community and inpatient settings.

This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust. This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period. This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust. This post also includes paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during night, weekends and bank holidays

To support the Lead Nurse in delivery of ECT treatment.

The post holder will demonstrate enthusiasm and positive attitude to working in Electro convulsive therapy, solid communication skills and effective organisation skills.

To assist in the delivery of ECT.

To assist in the delivery of the Clozapine and depot clinic (Blossomwood only)

To fulfil duties of the role with enthusiasm and have positive attitude to working in ECT services.

To monitor patients’ physical health and identify early signs of deterioration.

To assist the lead nurse in the booking of ECT treatment sessions in coordination with the patient, and members of the clinical team.

To monitor patients for adverse effects before, during and after receiving ECT treatment.

To provide medical interventions in an emergency situation including management of cardiac arrest, seizure and syncope. To be a part of the team to deliver immediate life support to patients in the event of serious complications.

To address any patient discomfort.

To ensure that ECT equipment is safely positioned and maintained in line with the trust polices.

To maintain patient confidentiality and treat patients with dignity and respect.

To follow established ECT protocols and clinical governance procedures.

To communicate effectively with the ECT Leads and other members of the team locally and other sites.

To maintain a high degree of precision regarding ECT administration, in terms of localisation of stimulation site, safe administration and patient monitoring.
