**Assistant Director - Nature Strategies**

**Salary: Up to £85,000 DOE**

**Purpose**

The purpose of this role is to support The Biodiversity Consultancy (TBC)’s Nature Strategies team to implement our goal of delivering measurable positive impacts on biodiversity at the societal scale, by enabling our corporate clients to:

- **Assess **their impacts and dependencies on nature
- **Commit** to ambitious and evidence-based nature strategiesa.
- **Transform** their interfaces with nature by:
a. Avoiding and reducing new and on-going impacts
b. Making proportional positive contributions to nature recovery
c. Transforming land/seascapes, value chains and sectors
- **Disclose** information on their nature-related impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities, and approaches to manage them

**Responsibilities**

As Assistant Director in the Nature Strategies team you will work closely with and support the Strategic Director of Nature Strategies to:
**Lead a large and rapidly growing international team of high capacity consultants**, including:

- Recruiting and nurturing talent, through effective people management and leadership
- Delivering multiple complex client projects and deliverables on-time, on-budget and to a high degree of quality, through effective project management, technical oversight and quality control

**Guide multi-national companies with complex value chains on their nature action journeys**, including:

- Companies within food & beverage, beauty & personal care, fashion & apparel, and automotive & engineering sectors, as well as their agri
- and mineral-based value chains
- Delivering biodiversity footprints and risk assessment; corporate strategies and targets (e.g., SBTs); action plans and implementation support; monitoring and evaluation plans; disclosures (e.g., TNFD, CSRD)

**Develop and deliver the Nature Strategies team Strategy**, which will include elements of marketing and communications, business development, client management, thought leadership, and technical innovation of our products and services to ensure we remain at the cutting edge of business and biodiversity.

In doing so, you will be expected to demonstrate:

- **A practical client-centric approach**: bringing authority and practical experience from previous engagement with our priority sectors (e.g., experience with responsible procurement, supplier engagement, implementing corporate ESG commitments)
- **Ability to communicate clearly with specialist and non-specialist audiences**: including writing and reviewing client deliverables for various audiences (e.g., from R&D teams to C-Suite); writing and reviewing material for scientific and business press, our website and publications; public speaking on behalf of TBC including writing and delivering presentations and webinars (e.g., for clients, industry and stakeholder bodies, forums and initiatives, and technical partners)
- **Technical scientific knowledge and thought leadership on key biodiversity topics**: including ability to accurately and confidently summarise information on and implications of: Nature Positive, the role of corporations in delivering the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, emerging frameworks (e.g., TNFD, SBTN, CSRD), and methods and metrics for corporate biodiversity assessment.

You will report to the Strategic Director - Nature Strategies, and work closely with the other senior members of the Nature Strategies team, as well as Technical Directors in TBC’s other cross-cutting teams (e.g., Sustainable Infrastructure, Nature Finance, Technical Research and Development) to ensure alignment of products and services for positive biodiversity outcomes.

You will have significant autonomy to develop and mature product/service offerings, oversee major projects, manage client relationships and provide technical support for project delivery. You will also take a direct project management and delivery role for the most technically challenging projects; offer client-centric and/or technical oversight for other projects; and line manage a team of consultants, which you will build out over time and mentor.
