Overview:
The Senior Rail Operations Specialist plays a key role in helping to deliver RSSB’s mission for a better, safer railway. You will be a part of the Standards Directorate, working in the Rail Operations team who are responsible for Rail Industry Standards for Traffic Operation and Management (TOM) and National Operations Publications (the Rule Book).

**Responsibilities**:

- Develop proposals to change national standards and present these to industry to gain support for a way forward;
- Author changes to national standards, and capture the rationale for these changes in RSSB’s content management system;
- Deliver high-quality outputs that are accepted by the wider industry and result in tangible benefits;
- Engage and collaborate with RSSB’s members, who represent all aspects of the GB rail sector;
- Respond to technical enquiries in a timely manner;
- Provide technical input and support to the national research, development and innovation programme;
- Support the delivery of the standards strategy and the RSSB’s Business Plan commitments to time, quality and cost;
- Support the development of business cases by working collaboratively with colleagues from other disciplines across the business;
- Support the development of robust delivery plans that ensure industry agreed processes are adhered to, and take into consideration the needs of RSSB’s members and stakeholders;
- Support the development and delivery of RSSB’s commercial offering, including the delivery of accident and incident investigation training; and
- Advise RSSB members and stakeholders on the role of national standards within the framework that governs the rail sector.

Qualifications:
**Essential**
- Experience in undertaking research and interpreting complex information and communicating it clearly;
- The ability to understand, interpret and review technical documents;
- Effective writing skills with a keen eye for detail;
- Communicate effectively and share thoughts and ideas through methods appropriate to the audience;
- Adapt and respond effectively when embracing new opportunities, change and in navigating uncertainty;
- Actively contribute as part of a team and work towards achieving team goals and outcomes;
- Take responsibility and demonstrate accountability in completing tasks and achieving objectives, actively seeking to resolve problems and identify opportunities;

**Desirable**
- An in-depth knowledge or experience of rail operations with an appreciation of emerging technologies, including in-cab signalling;
- Intermediate competence with Microsoft Office 365;
- A demonstrable commitment to personal development including a willingness and the initiative to learn from others;
- An understanding of project management principles and the ability to support project managers with project delivery; and
- A demonstrable use of your initiative to learn new concepts and solve problems.
