An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Buyer to join a well-established new house builder based in Leicester. Family-run for 130 years, we strive in delivering exceptional service to our customers and continue to create communities throughout the East Midlands.

This is a full-time position to support the growth and function of the Purchasing Team within the Jelson Group. The role will require you to work within the team, to support them and for you to learn the skills that are required to for you develop in the role. Your main responsibility will be to support with placing orders for materials and work towards deadlines, whilst maintaining and updating the database of all material prices and purchases.

The team is responsible for sourcing, scheduling and ordering construction materials for the housing, industrial and refurbishment projects. In addition, Jelson manufacture Kitchens, Windows and Stairs that require raw materials and components sourcing and ordering.

**Your key tasks will include**:

- Place orders for materials/stores requisitions.
- Maintain and update database of prices for Workshop and Stores materials.
- Process ceramic tiles, carpets and appliance orders.
- Undergo training on how to take off drawings and update schedules.
- Answer site queries/requisitions and order materials on Nav System.
- Place orders for Material Plot packs on the Housebuild System.
- Attend college one day a week.
- Carry out site visits/inspections where required.
- Obtaining quotes, negotiating prices and establishing relationships with suppliers.
- Understanding building materials and how they are used with house building.

**Skills required**:

- Construction industry experience would be an advantage however enthusiasm to pursue a career in Buying is more important.
- Applicants must be competent, determined and self-confident.
- Good organisational skills and time management skills are essential along with the ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
- A confident communicator on the phone, in writing and in face to face meetings.
- 3 A levels / Level 3 Qualification or equivalent.

You will be given an opportunity to study up to and including a Level 5 qualification.

**Job Type**: Permanent

**Salary**: £20,000.00-£22,000.00 per year
