Main duties and responsibilities
- Initial clerking, assessment, diagnosis and management of all patients admitted.
- Management of all patients on the wards, and any outlying wards.
- Referral of patients to other specialities.
- Necessary emergency investigation e.g. blood samples for crossmatch, emergency X-ray etc.
- Appropriate discharge of patients, either:

- Admission to inpatient facilities
- Discharge with suitable follow-up at the hospital
- Discharge to General practition
