The Channel 4 Access Services Internships, developed in collaboration with Red Bee Media, a leading international broadcasting and media services company and the largest access services provider in Europe, present an exciting opportunity for entry-level individuals with a passion for television and a desire to help ensure it is accessible to all.

In alignment with the Paralympics scheduled for 2024, we are proud to announce 12-month paid placements in subtitling, audio description scripting, and working as a signing assistant, commencing in April 2024. As an intern, you will undergo comprehensive training, and no prior work experience or specific qualifications are necessary; we seek individuals with a genuine love for television and boundless enthusiasm.

Applicants must be 18 years or older at the scheme's commencement in April 2024. There is no upper age limit.

The scheme strives to offer opportunities to those currently underrepresented in the TV industry, so we are particularly keen to hear from Deaf and/or disabled people, ethnically diverse people and people from lower socio-economic groups.

**About this opportunity**:
The Audio Description Scripter Intern will work at Red Bee Media. This is predominantly a homeworking role that can be done from anywhere in the UK, with the possibility of occasional travel to Red Bee’s London office.

**This role would be ideally suited to applicants with strong language and communication skills, and an interest in the media.**:
Audio Description is a second soundtrack which describes on-screen action, locations and characters and is interwoven with the programme dialogue, music and sound effects.

An audio description script consists of timings and text. The timings indicate periods when audio description is possible and desirable, the script describes action, location, characters etc.

**What you will do**:

- Prepare audio description scripts for a wide variety of programme material that meet Red Bee Media’s standards of accuracy, faithfulness, access and style as specified by Red Bee Media’s audio description guidelines.
- Contribute ideas on editorial practice during group discussions and programme reviews.
- Watch or read fellow scripters’ work and give feedback.
- Operate a range of technical equipment, to ensure the preparation and delivery of audio-description scripts.
- Support the Audio Description Production Managers in planning for new audio-described output.

**You will bring**:

- Proven writing skills and experience of using a wide vocabulary with flair so as to be able to communicate the action, mood and register of programmes.
- Ability to write scripts to very tight deadlines.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- An interest in and understanding of the needs and wishes of visually impaired people when watching television.
- Genuine interest in and knowledge of television output.
- Ability to respond readily to changing circumstances and adapts to suit new challenges and new ways of working
