**Overview**:
**Appointment of Members to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)**

The SSSC comprises of a Council of 10 members, including the Convener, who come from a variety of backgrounds and is required to include SSSC registrants and users of care services.

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) was established in October 2001 as a new non‑departmental public body set up under the **Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001**. Its main responsibility is to regulate the social service workforce in Scotland, including their education and training. The aims and objectives of the SSSC are to protect those who use services; raise standards of practice; strengthen and support the professionalism of the workforce; contribute to securing a sustainable future for social care through development of new roles, new qualifications and ways of working.

**Remuneration and time commitment**

Members of the Board receive a daily fee of £154.14 for around 5 days per month. Expenses incurred as a result of carrying out the duties of the appointment, including reasonable travel and subsistence costs, will be reimbursed.

The appointment is non-pensionable.
