What you'll do

As a Senior Buyer at Sainsbury's, this lead buying role will require you to provide broad leadership in the Commercial team by effectively translating the category strategy and overseeing its execution to drive profitable growth within your assigned ranges and teams. You will be accountable for range building in large turnover categories, ensuring the selection and trading strategy aligns with the commercial strategy while delivering a customer-focused proposition and meeting target KPIs. This will involve collaborating with product development, global sourcing teams, and suppliers to achieve optimum cost and profit. Additionally, you will act as a coach and leader, managing, motivating, and developing the Buying team, while closely working with merchandising counterparts to ensure the successful implementation of the category strategy. Your strategic vision will drive range creation, own brand proposition, and market influence to differentiate and curate a compelling customer proposition. Managing pricing, budgeting, supply chain, promotions, and channel management will also be key responsibilities. Overall, your role will involve leading a high-performing team, driving innovation, and achieving commercial success while aligning with legal and ethical standards.

Strong commercial awareness and multi-product Buying experience,

Knowledge of systems and processes in a complex multi-channel environment, adapt and agile at operating across digital, store, catalogue trading, able to balance short and long term objectives to deliver the category KPI’s.

Ability to work at pace and drive impact and lead change collaboratively where necessary.

High degree of commercial acumen with a proven track record of commercial successes within this or other organisations

A knowledge and understanding of Legal, competition law, anti-bribery and corruption and Intellectual Property

Ability to analyse complex data from multiple sources to drive decisions and strategies

Proven track record of delivering results to targets as an individual and within a team

Financially astute understands how own business decisions can influence shareholder value, understand financial levers to drive product performance with category responsibility

Ability to work under pressure in a fast-moving dynamic retail environment
