Working within the Campaigns and Policy Department, the Hunting and Captivity team are on the
frontline of WDC’s efforts to end the hunting and captivity of whales and dolphins around the
world. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the strategic oversight and delivery
of much of WDC’s in-country campaign efforts aimed at changing hearts and minds within cetacean
hunting countries. You need to be experienced at identifying opportunities to influence and
persuade across cultural differences. You will line manage and support a small team based in
the UK and abroad as well as working closely with colleagues from other WDC offices whose work
focuses on this issue.

**Your duties and responsibilities**:
Passion - Seek every opportunity to end whale and dolphin hunting: Have an unending drive to
create positive change for whales and dolphins. Assist in the development of an effective
strategy to end the hunting and captivity of cetaceans worldwide. Line manage the hunting and
captivity team (staff and external consultants), ensuring that the team implement the strategy
devised and that output is effective and timely.

Integrity - Identify and outwardly promote knowledge and science: Represent WDC in external
meetings, NGO networks, political arenas and at national and international fora to influence
positive changes. Engage with national and regional governments where relevant. Maintain an
understanding of social, legislative and policy developments relating to cetaceans and their
environment, particularly those relevant to hunting and captivity. Build and maintain
collaborative relationships with political, industry, NGO and other key stakeholders with the
aim of achieving positive changes in policy and practice. Write and publish papers, reports and
other communications on the hunting and captivity of whales and dolphins and related
conservation or welfare issues to inform and influence decision makers, the public and other
stakeholders.

Inclusiveness - Collaborate across the organisation and externally: Work together with WDC's
offices on planning and delivering hunting and captivity campaigns to achieve policy goals.
Coordinate with WDC colleagues, particularly Communications and Fundraising, to engage existing
supporters and donors and new audiences in campaign and policy delivery. Ensure that WDC
campaigns are culturally sensitive and seek to bring the public with us to create a movement of
people dedicated to the protection of whales and dolphins.

Courage - Be bold, confident and ambitious to save whales and dolphins: Proactively identify
and take forward initiatives that capitalise on opportunities that will end the suffering of
whales and dolphins. Work as a senior member of the Campaigns and Policy team to fulfil WDC's
10-year goals.
