- Job description- We are looking for a highly motivated individual to manage our field based operational staff on the Upper Medway Navigation in Kent.
Your responsibilities will include:

- Deliver maintenance of navigation assets and operational activity
- Manage health, safety and wellbeing of the team
- Ensure the team are trained and maintain their competencies
- Carry out on-site active monitoring and ensure risk management compliance
- Assess risks, prioritise work and make decisions
- Manage internal and external customer relationships, working in partnership and providing excellent customer service
- Engage with suppliers and contractors
- Work effectively with other teams internally in the area and nationally

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- The Environment Agency is the navigation authority for the Upper Medway Navigation and we are responsible for maintaining the river channel, locks, weirs and sluices between Tonbridge and Maidstone. The team have a broad range of skills, from enforcement activity and lock keeping, through to operating large plant. Based at Allington Lock, we’re a customer facing, front-line service. The team takes pride in providing a highly rated navigation service 7 days a week.
- Experience/skills required-
An understanding of health, safety and wellbeing risks, practices and procedures
- The skills and ability to oversee maintenance works, manage navigation assets, manage external suppliers and contractors
- Experience in building good working relationships with internal and external customers, communicate effectively and demonstrate a good understanding of customer needs
- The ability to influence, persuade and deliver through others
- Good organisational skills, managing multiple priorities and demands effectively

An understanding of navigation or flood risk assets and operational maintenance would be desirable.
Most important is your enthusiasm and willingness to learn, combined with excellent problem solving and communication skills. You should set a positive example for others in your own behaviours and be inclusive so that everyone can be their best.
- Contact and additional information- The role will be based at Allington Lock and you'll be required to travel between sites on the Navigation, so a full UK driving licence is required.
