They use Ruby for 50% of their work, but their last 3 hires have not come with any Ruby experience. Yet,they have successfully retrained and learnt the skills needed through the freedom and opportunity offered to them by the business. **Your new role**
They are casting a wide net on the search for this role, opening this up to Graduates, Juniors, Mid, and Senior Developers. With their re-training approach, they are looking for Object Oriented Programming experienced developers, from any language background.If you have some of the following stack experience then all the better: PostgreSQL/DynamoDB (databases), Ruby-On-Rails (Backend API), VueJS/Typescript/Angular (Frontend), Python (AWS Lambdas), Git (GitHub Source Control), Heroku (for testing/staging), Semaphore(CI).
The team deliver incrementally in sprints within an Agile (SCRUM) environment. These sprints are done in 2 week periods, of which you have freedom of shifting your focus after completion. Fancy concentrating on Ruby Back end for 2 weeks... fine. Switch overto focus on Front End Angular for the next two weeks... also fine
Every team member is involved in their sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospective ceremonies. Their development process favours pair-programming, code reviews, automated testing and frequent collaboration. They prefer clean code to over-engineering.
Their aim is to be truly full-stack, and in addition to covering database to back-end to front-end development. They all have responsibility of looking after the AWS infrastructure, DevOps, CI/CD, dependent on the experience level. Their systems serve thousandsof requests per minute and their databases have 100s of millions of records. They manage caches across a variety of end points and they work with third-party integrations. They also have opportunities to grow as well-rounded developers capable of requirementsgathering, project management, and research.
They are fully equipped and organised to work remotely, but prefer to come to the office for more intense collaboration at the beginning of the 2 week sprints, to exchange ideas and knowledge or just enjoy the time with other people. It would be sensible toexpect to be in the office for 2/3 days every 2 weeks.
