**Job Title**: Retail Assistant (Temporary contract)
**Location of Job**: Assisi Animal Sanctuary Charity Shop - Holywood store
**Hours of work**: 20 hours per week - Variable/flexible days
**Salary**: £21,276.18 per annum (pro rata) (under review)
**Line Management**: Reporting to Charity Store Manager
**Purpose of role**
Under the management and guidance of the Shop Manager, the post holder will ensure the effective day-to-day running of the shop by carrying out agreed procedures and routines which promote the development of shop profitability while at all times supporting the core values of the charity.
A dynamic individual with excellent communication skills is required, with a passion for the cause: the role is ultimately contributing to Animal Welfare in Northern Ireland and ensuring an excellent service is provided to all stakeholders of the organisation.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Ensures maximum stock availability through effective control of collections - generating and sourcing high quality stock, monitoring stock flow into the shop and achieving the optimum price point for all stock items.
- Actively promote Gift Aid in order to maximise contributions from donations.
- In conjunction with the shop manager, presents and maintain the highest standards of shop merchandising and visual layout.
- Assist with training volunteers in areas related to business needs to help realise their full potential and contribution to the shops performance.
- Prepare and complete all shop administration inclusive of cash handling and banking functions to the highest standard, accurately and on time, always adhering to Company Policies and Procedures.
- Ensure all Security, Fire, and Health & Safety policies and procedures are adhered to in order to provide a safe and secure shop environment for staff, customers and company assets, maintaining legal compliance at all times.
- Plan and organise daily work load throughout the shop in a way that ensures efficient customer service and a profitable operation.
- You will support in driving shop performance and will also be responsible for the shop operation in the absence of the Management team.
- Ensure all company policies, shop standards and operating procedures are maintained and followed through in a consistent manner.
- Actively participates in two way communication sharing and exchanging relevant and appropriate information with the shop manager.
**Person specification**
In order to meet the full requirements of the post, applicants must hold the qualifications specified, have experience in and/or be able to demonstrate competence in the following areas:
**Essential Criteria**
- Five GCSE's at grade C or higher, including English and Maths (or equivalents)
- Exceptional people skills - ability to make the store a place that people want to visit
- Experience of working in a customer service environment and delivering a high level of excellent customer service
- Previous key holder responsibilities
- Minimum three years cash handling experience
- Good communication skills - ability to communicate well with customers, volunteers, managers and Trustees
- Ability to use initiative and take responsibility, prioritise work accordingly through excellent time management, planning and organising skills
- Good numeracy and literacy skills and an excellent telephone manner
- Proficient in the use of MS Office products with experience and knowledge of Excel, Word & Outlook
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed to working to a high standard
- Passionate and committed to the aims and charitable objectives of Assisi Animal Sanctuary
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work and ability to remain calm and work under pressure
**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience of working in a charity shop
- Working alongside a team of volunteers
- An understanding of the culture within charity shops
