The University of Bristol’s Department of Philosophy wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Philosophy. This is a fixed-term 12-month position on Pathway 3 (primary responsibility for teaching, rather than research). The appointee must have teaching and supervision competency in epistemology; metaphysics; philosophical debates about rationality and probability; and philosophical writing and research methods. Competence in metaethics or value theory is desirable as well as the capacity to supervise final-year essay projects on a broad range of philosophical topics.

The appointee will be expected to deliver lectures and seminars at undergraduate and MA level, to mark essays and exams, to supervise and mark undergraduate dissertations and MA independent-study essays, to run “writing workshops” for students at various stages of undergraduate and postgraduate studies, to undertake any necessary teaching-related administration, to provide pastoral support to students, and to participate fully in the daily life of the department.
