On 1 April, North Yorkshire Council became a unitary authority, replacing the eight authorities previously providing district and council level services. The Fleet Management Section manage the licensing, taxation, insurance and maintenance of the Council’s 880 vehicles. The vehicles that are operated range from RCV’s to buses, mobile libraries, cars, quad bikes and mowers and includes O-Licence and Permit vehicles. The team are also responsible for the sourcing of new and replacement vehicles for services across the Council. The role of the team is critical to make sure the new Council’s fleet of vehicles are safe, roadworthy and legally compliant at all times. The team also manage the Fleet Maintenance Contract and administer the telematics system.

You will work as part of a small Fleet Management team supporting services using the Council’s vehicles. The Technical Compliance Officer Role is to support the safe and legal operation of all fleet vehicles and report to the Fleet Compliance Officer. You will undertake detailed inspections and topside checks on vehicles and associated specialist equipment operated by NYC at both NYC and external sites and provide accurate records of these checks. You will also be required to audit the operational procedures of NYC vehicles and to write reports recommending improvements and implementing action plans as required.

The Council’s vehicles are used by many departments in the course of their work and the Technical Compliance Officer is responsible for liaising with these teams to arrange the inspections. The role required travelling to all areas of the new Council across North Yorkshire and flexibility will be required dependent on current work requirements.
