Ecology Assistants

£10.90 per hour; fixed term positions available for 12 months, starting in June 2023; annualised hours (105 - 210 hours to be worked over a 12-month period as and when required); based at Beechcroft House, Curdridge, Hampshire, SO32 2DP.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is the leading local nature conservation charity and is one of the largest of the county-based Wildlife Trusts with a lively, dedicated and passionate team of over 100 staff and 1400 volunteers.

We are looking for reliable individuals with a passion for wildlife and nature conservation to join Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. The successful applicants will join our busy Arcadian Ecology team to assist in the delivery of the ecological monitoring of the Trust’s Estate and support Trust staff on externally funded project work. Our consultancy, Arcadian Ecology & Consulting, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.

The summer months are our busiest time of the year for conducting a range of ecological surveys in both Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Therefore, we’re looking for people to join and support our team during this period. The post holders will require the means to travel to different sites as and when required, and ideally have some ecological survey experience to order to provide support to our ecologists on a range of survey work (including phase 1 habitat survey, soil, bats, butterflies, bumblebees, reptiles, water vole, Odonata, Orthoptera, earthworm and white-clawed crayfish), data collection and collation, data analysis, use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), equipment maintenance (including implementing the Trust’s biosecurity protocol) and team working. Equipment, in-house training and support will be provided.

This role is an opportunity for people who want to learn more about UK ecology, to develop their fieldwork and species identification experience, or who are qualified ecologists looking for flexibility in the hours they work.

In this role you'd join us on a seasonal, annualised hours basis. Some out of hours work (including early mornings and late nights will be required). Expenses will also be paid for mileage outside of your commute.

**Application deadline**: Wednesday 17th May 2023

**Interview Date**: Wednesday 31st May 2023
