The purpose of the role is to be responsible for flexible and proactive delivery of an agreed teaching programme in Access and Applied Science. In addition to teaching, to undertake a range of administrative and developmental duties that contributes to improving standards and achievements and the learner experience.

**KEY ROLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**:

- To teach Biology and applied science related areas within the Access to HE (Science and Access to HE (Health Professionals) and across the level 3 Applied Science programme,
- To support develop of the curriculum across these related areas.
- To take an active part in the recruitment of learners providing appropriate advice and guidance.
- To deliver high quality teaching and learning by:

- providing students with a planned learning and assessment experience;
- effectively managing and monitoring the learning process;
- proving regular assessment opportunities;
- providing timely and constructive feedback; and
- guiding and supporting learners to achieve their learning goals.
- To support, and where appropriate, contextualise English, maths, study skills and digital skills within the curriculum.
- To actively develop and use new technology in teaching, learning and assessment.
- To provide assignment and assessment material appropriate to each specific programme (including necessary marking of work).
- To produce schemes of work, lesson plans, individual learning plans and assessment schedules etc. appropriate to the curriculum area.
- To evaluate and assess (formative and summative) the work of learners in relation to the curriculum criteria and provide timely, constructive and helpful learner feedback.
- To attend curriculum meetings and to contribute to the continual quality improvement mechanisms (e.g. maintenance of course files, Microsoft Platforms, e.g. Teams, shared drives, timely updating of e-ILPs on ProMonitor and verification and assessment records).
- To keep accurate and effective systems of administration which support the student and College needs, including management and maintenance of learner ILPs, progress and performance records.
- Where appropriate, liaison with other departments (e.g. Student Services, Welfare, Exams and MIS).
- To ensure safe working practices across the programme area.

**GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- To commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
- To participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and attend such training events as are necessary to enable him/her to carry out the duties of the job description.
- To continually improve teaching, learning and assessment through proactive CPD and sharing best practice.
- To actively participate in the College’s Quality System, including quality improvement strategies and initiatives.
- To undertake such other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
- To take reasonable care for the health and safety of him/her and for others affected by his/her work.
- To actively support College Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity policies.
- To operate/conduct all HR tasks and functions within the principles of GDPR.

**CONDITIONS OF SERVICE**

All successful applicants will undergo the following checks:

- 2 x References, one of which must be your current or most recent employer
- Qualification validation check.

**SALARY**

The salary range for this post is from £22,101 to £35,365 per annum. Starting salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale. Increments are in August.

**TEACHING QUALIFICATION**

Applicants are required to hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to undertake and gain the Certificate in Education and Training within 2 years of their appointment. Successful applicants will be required to attend the course on-site as the College delivers the course in-house.

**Please note**- whilst obtaining a teaching qualification is a contractual requirement, the College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis regarding availability of funds and cannot therefore guarantee that newly appointed staff will receive either part or full funding for the course fees. However, student loan facilities are available.

**MATHS AND ENGLISH**

All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths. If you are not already in receipt of one or both of these qualifications, you will be expected to obtain it (them) during your employment at the College.
