An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Locum Consultant Nephrologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated colleague to join a dynamic and cohesive team of eleven existing Renal Consultants, one honorary Renal Consultant (who holds a substantive University post), one Consultant in ITU/Renal Medicine, and five Transplant Surgeons.

The emergency department based on the Queens Medical Campus is one of the busiest in Europe. It continues to be the hospital of choice for patients, encourages investment and remains at the forefront of research.
Our unit is well organised, caring, and thrives on a strong multidisciplinary culture. It has been at the forefront of many national and international initiatives. There is a strong base and foundation for clinical research. Nottingham is the regional centre for paediatric nephrology.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Consultants contribute to inpatient care, and a City Campus Renal Consult service, on a rotational basis. Care for transplant patients is provided jointly with the transplant surgeons and includes a joint senior medical / surgical ward round, seven days per week.
The Renal Consultants also provide, on a rotational basis, outreach services to Queens Medical Centre Nottingham and Kings Mill Hospital, Mansfield.
All Renal Consultants have their own nephrology clinic and provide their patients’ outpatient care until they reach established renal failure. Clinic appointments for low clearance patients alternate between medics & Renal Specialist Nurses.
Applicants must be on the GMC specialist register, or be within 6 months of attaining specialist registration at the time of interview. Interviews are expected to be held at the end of February 2023.

- Eligible to be included on the Specialist Register via : CCT (or within 6 months of CCT at date of interview) in Nephrology Or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) Or European Community Rights (if applicable)
Desirable criteria
- MRCP (Nephrology)
Professional Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- A broad training which demonstrates appropriate experience in, and positive attitudes to, all aspects of Renal Medicine
Desirable criteria
- Relevant higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc)
Clinical Skills/Experience
Essential criteria
- Familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices
- High level of clinical experience and competence in nephrology.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Competent (including ability to perform, supervise and teach) temporary dialysis line insertion.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in UK hospital systems
- Competent (including ability to perform, supervise and teach) in additional interventional nephrology procedures (tunnelled line insertion and peritoneal dialysis catheter insertion)
- Additional subspecialty training / experience relevant to post
Teaching, Audit & Research
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit.
Desirable criteria
- Original Research Publications
- Formal training/ qualification in medical education or quality improvement
Management skills
Desirable criteria
- Higher management degree or qualification or training, or significant experience of change management
