**Rotating Veterinary Patient Care Assistant (PCA)**

**Reporting to**: Surgery Lead

**Hours**: Full-time with participation in the OOH service, as required.

**Your role and responsibilities**

As a Rotating PCA you will be exposed to a variety of elements relating to the preparation and care of our patients. This includes walking and feeding animals, sterilising surgical equipment, and assisting the nursing team in handling patients and preparing them for surgery.

We are looking for a passionate individual who will strive to maintain the highest clinical and professional standards. You will be working in a fast-paced team that requires a great eye for detail and patient care.

The Rotating PCA Position comprises of 3 separate roles: Theatre Technician, Patient Care Assistant and Prep Technician. This will require you to switch between these areas on a weekly rotation. In addition, you will be included in the Theatre Technician on-call rota comprising of 1:5 weekends (10am-10pm).

This is a hands-on role and at least some experience handling animals is essential, however formal training and support will be provided within each discipline / role.

**The responsibilities of a Rotating PCA include, but are not limited to**:

- Working with the Theatre Technicians to assist in the cleaning and sterilising of surgical equipment.
- Performing final surgical preparation for patients before surgery. And opening sterile Equipment for the surgeons.
- Walking and feeding patients, assisting the nursing team by holding patients for blood samples and intravenous catheter placements, providing basic physiotherapy, providing clean, safe, and secure kennels and patient enrichment for a stress-free hospitalisation experience.
- Ensuring all clinical areas are kept to a high level of cleanliness and stocked ready for use.
- Experience (desired) of working within a clinical and/or high-pressure environment, and/or experience of working with animals within a professional or personal capacity.
- Ability to work well under pressure and stay calm.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to deal with client information in a confidential manner.
- Good time-management skills
- Working within a busy team and can work on own initiative.
- Methodical approach to working.
- Passion for the welfare of animals.
