Location: Coleg Llandrillo (North Wales) and Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm (Grimsby).

Requirements: 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at 4/C or above including Science, Maths and English.

**Salary**: £16,500 in the 1st year, rising to £23,412 in the 3rd year. Benefits include pension and private single medical cover.

**Wind Turbine Technician Apprenticeship**

The 3rd year will consist of on-site training at Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm at Grimsby.

**MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB**

We will provide a comprehensive and well supported learning programme including classroom-based learning and experience on site working with our technicians. Completing the Apprenticeship will result in an NVQ level 3 qualification in wind turbine operations and maintenance and a level 3 diploma in wind turbine maintenance.

Your hard work will ensure our wind farms continue to deliver power to households and business. It is a rewarding job that allows you to work on highly advanced machinery in a challenging environment. Once trained you will be working at sea, in all weathers and at height, using heavy, complex mechanical and electrical equipment. You will be required to demonstrate a commitment to Health and Safety in all aspects of your work.

Initially the focus will be upon learning and developing engineering knowledge through education and training. However, examples of the tasks covered as Technicians in the longer term include:

- Electro/Mechanical problem solving of wind turbines working in small teams at height in remote locations with user manuals as reference
- Working with advanced mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment in a safe manner
- The technicians will be required to plan in advance what tools, spares and materials are required for each job they do
- Fault find and diagnosis of wind turbine main component condition to assist in determining if site repair is possible or whether the unit requires exchange
- Support inspection of blades and performing minor repairs then writing condition reports
- Ongoing development to become a multi skilled technician that will cover all aspects of inspection, maintenance and repair of the wind turbines

**CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS**

You will be keen to learn and undertake a practical role and standby maybe required.

Knowledge and Skills:

- 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at 4/C or above including Science, Maths and English
- Willing to learn and develop
- Interest in engineering
- Able to work a height
- Able to work at sea
- Willing to work shifts
- Must live within an hour of site

All apprentices will be expected to study full time for the first 2 years at **Coleg Llandrillo **_, _**_Rhyl in North Wales _during term time, before being deployed at **Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm in Grimsby **for the 3rd year for hands-on experience of working on a wind farm.

Accommodation will be provided in North Wales during term time for the first 2 years, along with travel expenses for journeys between the Grimsby region and the term time address. Please note that accommodation will not be provided for the time spent on site in Grimsby.

**Important Dates**:

- Application closing date: 08th March 2024
- Assessment Centre: WC 29th April 2024
- Working at height and offshore/onshore fitness assessment centres: June 2024
- Role start date: August 2024

**Accommodation/Travel**:
Term-time accommodation will be provided in the North Wales area, with RWE covering the cost of your commute to the college each day. We will provide a shared house with shared facilities, with the costs of rent and utilities also being paid by RWE. Those apprentices under the age of 18 will also have the option to stay with a local family if preferred. Please note however that accommodation is only available while you are at college.

During term time, there will be a reasonable allowance for food and drink while away from home. Also RWE will pay for travel costs for journeys home at the weekends.
