We are looking to appoint an innovative and high performing substantive Consultant specialising in Glaucoma, providing all medical and surgical management within this sub-specialty.
An excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and flexible team led by a substantive Glaucoma Consultant specialist, delivering a multidisciplinary approach providing; Consultant complex and standard clinics, Optometry new patient screening clinics and Orthoptist and Nurse Practitioner monitoring and IOP/Compliance clinics. The sub-specialty is supported by an Ophthalmic technician team, virtual clinics and community Optometry schemes including Glaucoma referral repeated measures and ocular hypertension monitoring.
The department provides SLT and most recently commenced Micropulse laser in an out-patient setting as an alternative surgical intervention and in the process of commencing MIGS to provide a comprehensive adult glaucoma service.
To provide a comprehensive Glaucoma service including; complex out-patient clinics along with specialist surgical management (elective and acute), Micropulse laser treatment and MIGS (once approved) - training provision will be provided as required.
To clinically support and educate a multi-disciplinary team of trainees, Trust doctors, Optometrists, Orthoptists and Nurse Practitioners to provide a new patient screening and follow-up patient monitoring glaucoma service.
The wider department comprises 16 Consultants, 6 Specialty and Trust Grade Doctors, 4 Specialty trainees, 4 Nurse Practitioners, 10 Orthoptists, 5 Optometrists and a substantial team of Ophthalmic Nurses, technicians and healthcare assistants. The department also benefits from an ECLO and a dedicated Glaucoma Pathway Failsafe Co-ordinator.
Contribute to service improvement, transformation, clinical governance, patient safety and quality standards, GIRFT programme in relation to Glaucoma services.
CHFT has 2 main sites, Ophthalmology being based in Acre Mills Out-patients, Huddersfield and Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax. Community clinic sites include Westwood Park (Bradford) and Todmorden (Halifax) that provide selected sub-specialties.
The role also allows a great opportunity for someone to work alongside our local CCGs and local Optical Committee to support the development of Glaucoma practice within the department and community.
The Trust is currently one of the most digitised NHS Trusts in the country having moved to Cerner Millennium Electronic Patient Records (EPR) in 2017. This makes us currently one of the most paper-light and digitised Ophthalmology Departments in the country, and our planned/on-going work will make us a national leader in this area.
