**About the role**:
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Plumbers Assistant to join our friendly team at Maudsley Hospital. As a Plumbers Assistant/Maintenance Mechanical Assistant, you will need to be keen, enthusiastic and physically fit. The main activities are maintenance, reactive repairs, compliance monitoring and associated remedial work.

Applicants should be able to prioritise their work, parts and materials and carry out tasks from appropriate technical instructions/drawings, specifications in a safe, tidy manner and be capable of working on their own initiative. The Main Hospital and Community Properties include forensic buildings.

To maintain continuity of service we run an on-call rota and there will be times when extra hours, altered work patterns/duties is required as well as a requirement to undertake training to remain current with relevant standards and practices.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Assist in undertaking planned preventative maintenance or emergency work as demanded by a Hospital of this type and use all skills, knowledge to ensure safe methods of working and to carry out maintenance tasks in the most cost effective way for the Trust.
- Understand the workings of engineering services and systems, after a period of familiarisation in NHS/Trust premises. Ensuring that they are maintained to a high standard and that all plant and equipment are utilised in a safe and efficient manner.
- Assist in providing a maintenance service to all Trust buildings, off site properties and be able to work unsupervised. Have a flexible approach to the work and be able to work beyond the normal hours of duty if required and to carry out other tasks from the building section should circumstances so dictate. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and manuals to determine the layout and configuration of plumbing and mechanical systems.
- Must be willing to drive between trust properties in a safe and timely manner adhering to trust policies.

**You’ll have the following skills/experience**:

- Experience in a similar role and knowledge of the compliance demands in healthcare premises.
- Full clean Driving licence.
- Knowledge of plumbing and mechanical systems, including pipes, fittings, valves, pumps, boilers, HVAC systems, and related components.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting heavy equipment, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
