Our staff are required to work on a range of different sites, including; college campuses, employer’s premises or communities local to your learners home - therefore willingness to travel is essential. There may be a requirement to transport learners in your own car, insurance implications are reimbursed. Mileage and expenses are provided for travel during the working day.

**Your responsibilities will include, but are not restricted to**:

- Deputise for the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), where necessary.
- Liaise with the DSL to make decisions around safeguarding cases as needed.
- Complete safeguarding referrals for learners where necessary.
- Act as a source of support, advice and expertise for all staff in matters of safeguarding and learner welfare.
- Attend fortnightly safeguarding meetings to remain up to date with current safeguarding concerns and interventions.
- Keep knowledge and training regarding safeguarding and learner welfare up to date.
- Ensure safeguarding records are accurate and regularly updated, including maintaining an accurate log of safeguarding concerns.
- Deliver staff training in relation to safeguarding as directed by the DSL.
- Deliver learner workshops based on safeguarding themes where appropriate to support curriculum delivery.
- Promote safeguarding across the college, including ensuring that safeguarding related information is accurate and up to date on notice boards.
- Complete safeguarding case studies, demonstrating learning from safeguarding concerns.
- Lead the Learner Welfare team, line managing the Learner Welfare Coordinators.
- Ensure accurate records are maintained for learners receiving welfare support.
- Offer signposting and referrals for learners needing external mental health support.
- Develop, maintain and promote a provision map, supporting learners to understand what local services they can access to support their wellbeing.
- Be involved within curriculum events relating to safeguarding, mental health and wellbeing.
- Uphold the principles of a _‘Whole College Approach to Promoting children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing’._
- Create and maintain a system that provides early identification of learners and their families in need of support to enable the Learner Welfare Coordinators to take appropriate action.
- To support learners with a wide range of issues, including bereavement, family breakdown, mental health difficulties and other issues with a view to support reengagement with their programme.
- To record, monitor and report on the impact of the interventions in place for learners at risk including their attendance and behaviour and report termly.
- To ensure Learner Welfare Coordinators work with individual learners where appropriate when issues from home are affecting or likely to affect their performance / attendance / behaviour at college.
- To manage the appointments for external services to meet with learners and families e.g. external occupational and/or speech therapists; counsellors; advocates; social workers.
- To foster and promote a culture of positive learner engagement.
- Engender strong lines of communication between the college and family.
- Attend internal and external meetings, briefings and other forums as required.
