Established 30 years ago, Turning Tides is a multifunctional, complex needs homelessness charity. Our mission is to end local homelessness.

We have gone from supporting a handful of people in the coastal town of Worthing to providing a range of services to over 1,700 people in Worthing, Adur, Littlehampton, Horsham and Mid Sussex. We have over 10,000 supporters, 300 volunteers and 160 staff members to date.

The Substance Misuse and Wellbeing role is funded as part of an ongoing project supported by CGL & commissioners, to support some of the most marginalized at-risk clients in West Sussex.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Substance Misuse and Wellbeing role sits within Turning Tides’ Community Links Team, working alongside our Substance Misuse & Wellbeing Worker, Mental Health Worker, Advice & Assessment workers, Social Worker and Support Co-Ordinator’s (who work with a cohort of long-term rough sleepers) in addition to care coordinators through CGL. The Team provides focused support and helps both clients and staff navigate an often overwhelming and complex system of support. This role is based between Littlehampton Community Hub and Worthing St Clare’s Community Hub. The role will provide outreach and accommodation in both areas, seeking to engage and support clients into stable temporary accommodation in collaboration with CGL, AWDC/ADC housing services and outreach teams.

**ABOUT YOU**

You will have experience of supporting people who are homeless and insecurely housed experiencing multiple exclusions/difficulties

You will help develop and maintain relationships with statutory and voluntary sector, CGL in Bognor & Worthing, Mental Health Services across Worthing, Littlehampton, and Arun, including Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust and Coastal West Sussex MIND.

Play an active part in the development and implementation of organisational wide policies and procedures.

You will possess.
- Good knowledge of alcohol, drugs and issues around addiction, Harm reduction and relapse management.
- Good knowledge of substitute prescribing.
- Good knowledge of mental health, personality disorders and dual diagnosis
- Good knowledge of welfare benefits, housing and homelessness law and policy.
- Commitment to and good understanding of equality and diversity.
- Extensive experience of supporting vulnerable people experiencing multiple exclusions/disadvantage
- Extensive Experience of providing substance misuse interventions and/or mental health support to people
- Proven ability to work effectively within a partnership along with the ability to advocate effectively at all levels.
