Guidance

Role Summary

The Drama Practitioner role is integral to the Creative Learning Team. This role involves delivering workshops in Primary and Secondary School settings and will include two days of facilitation at Braidwood School for the Deaf on a weekly basis. We are looking for a practitioner with a passion for working with young people, knowledge of Deaf Awareness and experience working with Deaf participants.

Main duties and responsibilities
- Supporting the theatre’s strategies to increase participation and learning through theatre
- Creating a link between the theatre, young people, schools, colleges and communities acting as a mentor and role-model for our young people
- Engaging young people in developing their creative and performance skills
- Working with Head of Education and School Staff to develop and deliver projects with a range of partners including schools and community settings
- Working with participants who have a range of needs, especially young people who are hard of hearing or D/deaf
- Devising learning programmes to support the Rep’s artistic objectives
- Delivering workshops in formal education and community settings

Specific Responsibilities
- To create and facilitate workshops in schools to support the school’s curriculum and creative needs.
- To deliver exciting summer schools which take place at The Rep
- To create resource packs for productions at The Rep
- To direct youth theatre productions with school participants
- To support the delivery of Arts Award in schools and mentor Young Rep members to achieve their arts awards
- To work in collaboration with other members of staff to develop and manage artistic projects. This particularly involves communicating with Production and Artistic teams at the REP to organise backstage activity for young people in our programmes.
- To monitor, assess and record work according to relevant criteria provided schools, funders and The Rep
- To report to potential stakeholders through documentation and by attendance at consultation and open events
- To attend school meetings and INSET where relevant
- To support and promote partners’ codes of practice regarding discipline, professional conduct and equality of opportunity

General Responsibilities
- Adhere to and implement the guidelines, procedures and policies of the company as detailed in the staff policies (available from the staff handbook).
- Complete all mandatory training and e-learning
- Play a role in the life of the company and work across departments to develop a positive and engaged organisational culture including playing active and positive roles in staff forums/committee’s.
- Be aware of, and comply with, rules and legislation pertaining to Health & Safety at work and abide by the procedures set out in the Health & Safety Policy.
- Be aware of, and comply with, rules and legislation pertaining to data security, and GDPR, at work and abide by the procedures set out in the Data Protection Policy.
- All staff are expected to demonstrate an understanding of, and adherence to, our safeguarding policy, including a duty to report any issues of concern.

Any other duties

The duties and responsibilities set out should not be regarded as exclusive or exhaustive. The post-holder may be required to undertake other reasonably determined duties and responsibilities within the organisation which are appropriate with the level of the role without changing the general character of the post.

The post-holder may also be called upon to carry out duties that would not normally be associated with the post on a temporary basis where there is a strong organisational requirement for that to happen. The post-holder would be given appropriate training and equipment to carry out any duties of this kind.

This role forms part of the Creative Learning team. You will be managed by the Head of Education.

Person specification

You must have

If you do not demonstrate that you meet all these criteria you may not be shortlisted.
- Experience of drama facilitation in education and community settings, especially with deaf participants.
- Experience of drama workshop delivery to young people
- Experience directing youth theatre productions
- Knowledge of Applied Theatre practice, process drama, teacher-in-role techniques and drama conventions
- Knowledge of current trends within drama and theatre Education
- Knowledge of examples of good practice in commun
