Events and Operations Assistant

The Army Flying Museum at Middle Wallop in Hampshire tells the story of British Army Flying from the earliest attempts to conduct operations with gas filled balloons in the late 1800s to today’s Army Air Corps which has operated with distinction around the world including combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We welcome about 60,000 visitors to the site each year, a number that is steadily increasing. We have recently completed a £2.4m National Lottery Heritage Fund project which significantly improved the museum and allowed us to develop the range of activities we offer. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, this is a critical time for the Museum and this role is a key part of the commercial operations team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-organised and self-motivated individual who is not afraid to hit the ground running to join this busy part of the Museum’s operations. This role covers a wide range of tasks and is a fantastic opportunity for someone with an interest in the events and heritage sector to kick start their career and be a key part of a growing charity.

**Events**:

- Be a key member of the Wheels and Wings event team with general management of car and motorbike exhibitors
- To be welcoming to all exhibitors and visitors and promote the event to visitors on the day with confidence and enthusiasm
- To be a point of contact for the Wheels and Wings event, using the radio system to communicate during the event.

**Commercial Operations**
- Assist with meetings and functions at the Museum, including room and audio-visual set up, and preparing and serving refreshments
- Facilitate group bookings for the Museum including booking tour guides as required and gather feedback and data
- Assist in the operation of the reception, shop and café, including all areas of retail sales, stock management, cash handling and financial control
- Oversee the Museum’s online shop
- Provide assistance and information for visitors and answer queries
- Ensure highest levels of customer care are always in place to provide an excellent experience for visitors

**Marketing**
- Design and distribute publicity and print materials for the Museum
- Maintain press coverage spreadsheet
- Assist the Marketing and Events Officer with social media content and website maintenance

**Education and Outreach**
- Assist the Education Officer in delivering Museum Sleepovers, Young Eagles, Pre-School Pilots and school holiday activities at the Museum as required, including demonstrating or leading on some activities
- Attend local events during Spring and Summer with the Pop-Up Museum

**General**:

- To participate in training as required by the Museum in line with health and safety requirements
- Other tasks as required

**Person Specification**

**ESSENTIAL**
- Extremely well organised, efficient and an innovative problem solver
- Polite, friendly and welcoming with excellent customer service skills
- At ease working with children, young people and families
- Self-motivated with the ability to use own initiative
- Enthusiastic about the Museum and heritage sector

**DESIRABLE**
- Experience within a cultural or charitable organisation
- Experience of design skills
- Experience of EPOS systems
- Experience of working front of house

**Job Types**: Part-time, Temporary contract
Contract length: 12 months
Part-time hours: 30 per week

**Salary**: £11.00 per hour
