JOB SUMMARY

To provide SaLT services in mainstream Secondary and Primary Schools participating in the achievement of Schools’

mission and vision. This will involve providing high quality, efficient and effective speech and language therapy services

whilst developing the role within the provision, within available resources and in accordance with appropriate regional and

national guidelines.

Therapist will be based in a Secondary school in Welling/Abbey Wood for 2 days and an All-through School (Primary and

Secondary) in Erith for 3 days per week.

Therapist will join small, friendly team where they will receive induction, weekly supervision, clinical and peer supervision,

regular meetings, social events, access to CPD budget, support with specialisms and assessment/resource package.

The role can be adapted to meet the needs of the therapist, e.g. supervisory responsibilities, developing specialisms and

managerial tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CLINICAL

1. Manage own caseload of students, with appropriate support from the Lead Speech and Language Therapist, in

accordance with the service’s models of care, including:
Carrying out clinical observations, informal and formal assessments of children and analysing the results reflecting

on own knowledge and experience and seeking more specialist advice as required.

Being responsible for devising child-centred therapeutic intervention plans in association with the child’s parents /

carers and education staff.

Being responsible for developing appropriate progression measures and data collection.

Monitoring intervention outcome and adapting the plan accordingly.

Providing reports in a timely manner.

Providing written and verbal reports for contribution to EHC Plans and annual reviews.

Setting up appropriate intervention groups, run by teaching staff supported by Therapist.

Liaising with healthcare professionals for onward referrals.

Reflecting on own knowledge and experience with reference to established and evidence-based practice within

the profession

2. Be a key member of the school team providing advice regarding speech, language or communication needs for parents

/ carers, education and health professionals in respect of both individual students and/or general guidance regarding the

management of these difficulties.

3. Establish a trusting and respectful relationship with children and their parents/carer and educational staff.

TRAINING

4. Collaborate with therapy colleagues and parents/carers to assist in devising, delivering and evaluating training courses

for parents/carers/education staff if required.

ADMINISTRATION

5. Maintain clinical records and data collection procedures in line with service and data protection policies.

SERVICE PROVISION

6. Demonstrate knowledge of national legislation, local protocols and professional guidance relevant to the speciality and

advise colleagues accordingly.

7. Contribute data or participate directly in a service development.

8. Contribute to the development of SLT roles in collaboration with therapy colleagues and other professionals.

PERSONAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

9. Actively engage with clinical supervision demonstrating the ability to reflect on own practice with peers and mentors

and identify own strengths and development needs.

10. Be competent and able in safe manual handling of students and young people in the context of speech, language and

communication therapy.

11. Actively engage in extending knowledge and clinical experience in areas of personal interest and professional

relevance.

12. Maintain and develop core professional competencies, underpinned by current evidence-based practice, national

standards and RCSLT clinical guidelines.

13. Maintain membership of RCSLT and HCPC.

It is the nature of the work of the post that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances, unpredictable and

varied. The post holder will therefore be expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises that tasks which are

not specifically covered in their job description, have to be undertaken. The job description may also be reviewed in light

of changing service needs or developments in consultation with the post holder.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: £30,869.60-£53,974.34 per year

Expected hours: No more than 37.5 per week
