**About Us**
- Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth, and environmental sciences.
- Beamline B21 is a high-throughput instrument at Diamond Light Source (DLS) that provides Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) measurements via automation and robotics. The SAXS measurements inform on the nanometer scales structures of particles in solution (such as proteins, nucleic acids or nanoparticles) as well structures found in semi-solid to solid materials (such as hydrogels or cubic phase lipids).
- Currently, the B21 beamline is developing new capabilities in the following key areas: 1) high-throughput measurements of semi-solid samples via robotics, 2) wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) measurements, 3) improved temperature control with increased range and faster ramping for mapping phase-space of materials, 4) improved methods for SAXS guided atomistic modelling and 5) high-throughput screening of protein-ligand interactions.

**About the Role**
- While the main focus of the role is your own research, you will have the opportunity to support other visiting scientists during their “user" visits. The role will involve:

- Significant time at the beamline being trained to run the beamline instrument to obtain necessary insights for making sensitive measurements.
- Acting as local contact to support users during scheduled beamline visits.
- Providing advice and guidance on the best approach to experiments, data analysis and research techniques.
- Supporting users post-visit to help produce peer-reviewed publication.
- Managing the development and commissioning of bespoke scientific equipment necessary to your research.
- Providing input and recommendations on safety aspects of the beamline and peripheral laboratories, including risk and COSHH assessments, where necessary

**About You**
- You will hold an appropriate Science Degree and PhD along with proven relevant experience in research.
- You will also have experience in:

- Structural characterisation such as small angle scattering to study samples in the area of structural biology or soft condensed matter.
- The use of scientific instrumentation and scientific data collection.
- You will also demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills to interact with both staff and our user community.
