We are looking for a proactive, motivated and a dynamic practitioner with the ability to enhance learning and development and support the nursing teams in the clinical area.

The Medical Day Unit in Chelsea is a busy area caring for patients undergoing a variety of chemotherapy and supportive treatments including patients taking part in clinical trials. The Practice Educator role is essential in helping nurses develop the knowledge and skills required for the safe and effective delivery of Systemic Anti
- Cancer Treatment. The role also includes teaching in the Royal Marsden School on various modules, venepuncture and cannulation training as well and involvement in the development of policy and procedure to improve care provision.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering a high quality evidence based education to nurses within the MDU and across the Trust. This will include supporting the education and training of nursing staff in IV drug / SACT administration; venepuncture and cannulation; and the care and maintenance of all types of vascular access devices.

The post holder will also be responsible for promoting high standards of care through the demonstration of clinical expertise and the creation of a clinical environment that encourages learning and professional development. The post holder will also work closely with the MDU Sister / Charge Nurse to foster a supportive working environment and maintain staff morale.

The post holder will also, as part of a team of practice educators, facilitate the induction, clinical mandatory updates, study days and academic programmes to support professional development for all levels of nursing staff working across the Trust.

In addition, the post holder will support the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse and the Medical Devices Coordinator with the Monitoring and review of staff compliance with medical devices and mandatory training within MDU.

Act as a role model and coach in clinical practice, particularly for junior nursing staff

Regularly assessing and reviewing progress towards competence and giving feedback to staff

Work clinically alongside staff to ensure clinical competency and development needs are met e.g. SACT/Venepuncture/Cannulation

Maintaining accurate and up to date records on staff training and support.

Ensure newly appointed staff nurses have been introduced to the information technology available in clinical areas to enable them to access information about relevant Trust policies and procedures.

Oversee the local induction and supernumerary period for the new starters in MDU

Ensuring that staff nurses are aware of the location of unit based learning resources, and knows how to access evidence to inform their practice.

To support nurses new to the Trust in achieving their competence in Medicines Management (IV/Oral & CD) and other competencies required by their role ( veenepuncture, cannulation, SACT)

To facilitate teaching throughout the clinical area and ensure all content is up to date and evidence based

To support the HCSW to achieve the Care Certificate and any other formal apprenticeship programme requirements and to continue professional development

Participate in Clinical Audit and Quality Improvement projects and link outcomes to training and education, and evaluate all education and training

Provide simulation training to MDU based on their needs.

Working closely with the Practice Educator team, to contribute, develop and create modules on the learning hub

To support the RMH Nursing School by contributing to education programmers, study days, courses, meetings or conferences as identified in their Personal Development Plan and deemed appropriate for the professional development by their line manager.
