**Building Control Manager**:

- The Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Building Control Manager to join our team.

You will lead, manage and develop the Building Control Service, prepare and revise policies and provide advice and guidance to the team and customers.

You will also ensure that the Council fulfils its legal regulatory function and national minimum performance standards and objectives, which will include carrying out dangerous structures and out of hours inspections and enforcement action.

We are currently in the process of developing a comprehensive, efficient and effective Building Control Service that operates differently to traditional local government building control services. The Service will be encouraged to increase income and openup new markets.

**Building Control Manager**:

- Key Responsibilities:

- Within the statutory and policy framework of the Council and in line with the highest professional standards, lead, manage and develop the Council’s Building Control Service
- Prepare and revise policies, procedures and work instructions relevant to the work of the service
- Carry out dangerous structures inspections including out of hours and enforcement action
- Carry out the Examination of Plans and other associated matters or submissions for compliance with the Building Regulations and associated legislation
- Liaise with applicants, agents, consultants and members of the public on building control matters
- Carry out site inspections and testing of building works for compliance with building control and associated legislation
- Provide quotes for work and ensure the correct payment of building control charges/fees income
- Be responsible for delivering on a monthly basis, all Departmental figures, Service improvement updates, Key achievements etc
- Attend Departmental and Corporate Management Meetings
- Ensure regular team meetings are held to facilitate communication with all staff and to ensure priorities and resources are balanced against service demands
- Support and take positive action in staff management including undertaken staff performance reviews and actively developing staff
- Represent the Council at Essex, Regional or National building control groups were appropriate
- Ensure that the Corporate and Departmental Safety Policies are observed by all persons working in the service. Ensuring that all Risk Assessments are up to date
- Provide information for the collation of the Annual Department Health and Safety Report
- Be responsible for continuing to improve and make services more efficient, looking to provide value for money in all services by benchmarking/ peer reviews etc

**Building Control Manager** - You:
