**JOB TITLE**: Facilities Joiner/Maintenance Apprentice

**LOCATION**: Giggleswick School

**RESPONSIBLE TO**: Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

**HOURS OF WORK**: 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, 52-week contract

Day release for College attendance

**TYPICAL DURATION**: 24 months

**SALARY**: £5.28 per hour

**ANNUAL LEAVE**: 25 days holiday per annum

**JOB PURPOSE**

As part of Giggleswick School’s Facilities Department this role requires you to work under the direction and guidance of an experienced Team Leader, support the delivery of our repairs and maintenance services whilst working towards a NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery and achieve the skills and experience to become a fully operational tradesperson.

**Main duties and responsibilities**

Specific objectives and deliverables will be agreed as part of your annual performance and development review (PDR) process, the points below are a summary of your main duties and responsibilities.

1. Carry out relevant trade duties on responsive and planned works as requested to
Giggleswick School Facilities Department specifications and standards.

2. To carry our first and second fix joinery and associated building works to specification as instructed either individually or as part of a team

3. To work in accordance with the information, instruction and training given safely and efficiently and to inform the Facilities Supervisor of any potential safety hazards not adequately controlled.

4. Complete relevant documentation to the satisfaction of your line manager.

5. Use authorised plant & equipment provided with due care and attention and as supervised

6. Work as part of a team and use materials safely

7. Load and unload materials and equipment as directed

8. Work flexibly across the repairs and maintenance service

9. Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, customers, and managers to ensure the effectiveness of the repairs and maintenance service.

10. Be aware of risk assessments and method statements relating to own area of work and to work in safe manner taking account other people’s health and wellbeing.

11. Take part in the apprentice review process and complete any training required and be capable of working independently in the final year of the apprenticeship.

12. Follow Health and Safety policy and procedures including the wearing of personal protective equipment when necessary.

13. Undertake health and safety training as required.

14. Manage health and safety issues in your area of responsibility in line with the relevant section(s) of the relevant Health and Safety Policy.

15. Always comply with School confidentiality and information security policies.

**Other**

To participate in regular team meetings and personally contribute to the development and promotion of the School.

You will be expected to be fully conversant with and implement the School’s range of equality and diversity and safeguarding policies and procedures, to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all pupils and staff.

To participate in the School’s appraisal scheme and undergo further professional development in line with the needs of the School.

Any other duties commensurate with grade and status as may reasonably be requested.
