ARMY RESERVE MUSICIAN - SERVE FROM JUST 27 DAYS A YEAR
We are looking for Musicians to join our Band, delivering excellence in military music - something that is unique, special and of value to defence.
As an Army Musician, you will be able to work part-time, with flexibility around your work and life commitments. The role includes working as part of an enthusiastic, friendly and motivated team to deliver a range of military music, such as ceremonial duties, concerts and small ensembles.
You can also expect opportunities to participate in adventure training and overseas travel.
- Be aged 18 years or over
- Pass an audition, demonstrating at least ABRSM Grade 6 ability
- Pass a fitness test including completing a 2km run in less than 13 mins
- Be medically fit, according to the Army's medical selection policies
You must also:
- Be a British citizen or
- Be an Irish citizen resident in the UK or
LIFE IN THE ARMY RESERVE - Once you've joined, most Reservists serve near their home, and meet once a week to train. You'll have occasional weekends away for music gigs or adventurous training.
TRAINING TO BE A RESERVIST - As a Reservist, you do your training in the evenings and at weekends and you get paid for the time you spend training. You'll need to do your basic training - but this can be arranged to fit in around your day job. You don't have to do all the training at once. It can be completed in shorter modules or in one go. Further training also takes place in your spare time. Your unit will be happy to support you during your training.
HOW MUCH TIME WILL IT TAKE? - How much time you spend is really up to you - training is flexible and can fit around your life. Most roles will ask you to aim for 27 days a year - and your weekly training session at your unit will count towards this. To earn your annual bonus, you'll need to make sure you meet your time commitment.
BENEFITS FOR RESERVISTS - As a Reservist soldier, you'll be paid a day rate which is in line with Regular soldier pay. You can also earn a 'bounty' which is a tax-free sum upon successful completion of annual training and testing. You'll also be enrolled into the Armed Forces Pension Scheme.
New Entrant Daily Pay - £46.91
Soldier Daily Pay - £58.99
Bounty pay varies from £470 in year 1 to £1,862 in year 5.
It's not just about the money, you'll learn soldiering skills, but you'll also get the chance to develop more specialist skills - these could lead to gaining extra qualifications which will count outside the Army too.
