Mechanical Design Engineer
Main Purpose of the role:
To carry out the duties associated with issuing mechanical, pneumatic/ hydraulic parts for build, including producing designs, drawings and parts lists to meet customer specifications.
Key Accountabilities:

- Detailed mechanical design work including 3D modelling, calculations and design verification
- Create 'value engineered' design solutions against agreed technical specifications for all projects
- Produce 2D drawings, detailed assembly drawings and bills of material
- Identify potential product improvements and support implementation
- Liaise with relevant person(s) to ensure that customer requirements are understood and interpreted correctly
- Support other departments notably Purchasing, Production and Project Management
- Management of own workload to ensure target design deliveries are met
Qualifications or Functional Experience:
Essential:

- Engineering qualification (HNC/HND) or equivalent experience
- High level experience using 3D CAD
Desirable:

- Proficient user of SolidWorks
- PDM vault management experience
- Time served apprenticeship
Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
Essential:

- Ability to understand customer and technical requirements and establish the impact on the entire design (not just mechanical aspects)
- High level of experience in a machine design role within medium duty engineering.
- IT literate with experience of MS Outlook, Word and Excel
Desirable:

- Knowledge of fabrication, machining and assembly techniques
- High level of experience in a "special purpose" machine design role

- Excellent organisational and planning skills to meet agreed project timescales
- Willingness to adopt a hands-on approach when required
