Welfare Minibus Driver

Halton Community Transport is looking to recruit a new Welfare Minibus Driver to support our Section19 ‘Dial A Ride’ service, which operates in the Halton borough and to support our SEND school transport contracts.

Ideally you will be a confident driver with some experience of driving larger vehicles or taxi/private hire who is willing to work a flexible shift pattern and specialise in the carriage of people with disabilities and others who cannot use public transport.

HCT has over 25 years’ experience of operating ‘Dial A Ride’ services in the borough of Halton and now in recognition of its expertise is expanding its operation into the Liverpool City Region.

As a Welfare Minibus driver you’ll be given extensive training to MiDAS standards and will be expected to undertake a 1 day First Aid course, disability and diversity awareness training and Safeguarding training, HCT will also expect you to undergo periodic training and refreshers as and when required.

**Main purpose of job**: SafeTransport of HCT Passengers
- **Responsible to**:_ Fleet Operations Manager/CEO.
- **Main tasks of job**:_

1. To drive safely an in accordance with the law at all times.

2. Carry out daily safety checks on your vehicle and follow the safety instructions/checklist provided.

3. Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles.

4. Assist passengers as required to access and egress the vehicle (door to door).

5. To drive defensively and in the manner prescribed by the CTA and safe carriage of passengers by road.

6. To load and unload wheelchair users in the correct manner utilizing the correct equipment.

7. To clamp and restrain wheelchairs and occupants in a safe and comfortable manner utilizing the approved equipment.

8. Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to base or other vehicles, using mobile telephone or other communication devices when it is safe and legal to do so.

9. Maintain accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested from management.

10. Operate assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner and obey traffic laws, and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.

11. Ensure that fleet vehicles are clean inside and out on a daily/weekly basis.

12. Complete time sheets as required.

13. Liaise with staff, Managers, volunteers and clients/customers.

14. Any other reasonable duties assigned by the Fleet Operations Manager and CEO within your normal working hours.
- Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Fluent in English to effectively communicate with passengers and team members
- Previous experience as a minibus driver or in a similar role is preferred
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to provide a positive experience for passengers or customers
- Strong knowledge of local roads, traffic patterns, and navigation systems
- Ability to clamp wheelchairs
- Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
