The Role

Assessment Leads for SBA (Y3 & 4) - 0.1 FTE - Roles x 2

You will be accountable to the Board of Medical Studies through the Office of the Lead for Assessment to design, standard set and analyse SBA papers (year 3 or 4) as necessary to ensure they remain fit for purpose, which will include process and resource planning.
This is an appointment to the Assessment team so the role may change from leading SBA papers as the MBBS assessment strategy evolves.

Key Accountabilities

**You will be responsible for**:

- Developing and improving the current SBA papers (year 3 or 4) including first sit and resit
- Selecting items to populate the examination papers including resit papers
- Chair of standard setting panels for relevant SBA papers
- Running workshops to develop and quality assure new items for the item bank
- Developing resources for training of examiners
- Liaising with course leads and external examiners
- Liaising with NUMed to ensure assessment content is appropriate for the Malaysian context
- Participation as a member of examination boards
- Quality assurance of the assessment including:
i. Reviewing assessment item performance to inform the exam boards
ii. Reviewing the overall reliability of the assessment
- Participation as a member of the Exams Sub-committee and contributing to curriculum review
- To be dedicated exclusively to the Newcastle MBBS programme

Support for Assessment Leads

**You will undertake**:

- Staff development opportunities as provided by the School of Medical Education and Health Education England working across the North East
- Support for staff development opportunities offered elsewhere e.g. ASME, EBMA
- Administrative support as appropriate from the Medical Student Office
- Annual appraisal (University PDR process), which complements the NHS appraisal, with the Sub-Dean for Assessment

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- At least two years teaching experience on an appropriate MBBS programme
- Evidence of experience and training in relation to assessment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable
- A recognised teaching / medical qualification
- Membership or fellowship of the Association of Medical Educators or Higher Education Academy

Attributes and Behaviour
- Ability to respond enthusiastically and postively to students
- Demonstrable willingness and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues as part of a team
- Sensitivity to the views of others
- Enthusiasm for the task in hand

**Qualifications**:

- Knowledge of the MBBS curriculum
- Knowledge of NUMed and how the relevant courses are delivered, and outcomes met
