GTS Information technology are delighted to be working with a cutting-edge innovator within have automotive, transportation and motorsport sector who are actively recruiting for a Senior Communications Systems Engineer to join their ever-growing team.
The role
As a Senior Communications Systems Engineer, you will be one of the key contributors who guide and foster innovation by developing leading edge products that span multiple market segments including transportation, automotive and motorsport.
You will architect communications solutions and input into the communications technology roadmaps. You will provide technical authority and contribute to the planning and implementation of projects, bids and proposals You will take responsibility for the continuedoperation of a deployment including reaction to issues within tight timescales dictated by SLAs and leading preventative maintenance activities.
Minimum
We are looking for an applicant who has:

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other highly quantitative field (or equivalent experience).
- A strong background in requirements capture and management processes.
- A strong background in testing & validation of distributed electronic and software systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent technical knowledge. Able to quickly build rapport with peers and stakeholders. Able to tactfully challenge without alienating.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Demonstrable experience of technical leadership
- LAN/WAN networking and IT Network Operations experience.
- Experience of working with Linux servers (preferably Debian derived), including set-up and administration of common services, routing, and IP Tables.

Desirable & Development Areas
Some of the below would be beneficial to the applicant, but opportunities to develop in these areas will also be provided:

- Chartership with relevant professional body (IET, IMechE etc).
- Professional qualifications in communications systems (g. CCNA).
- Experience with requirements management tools g. IBM DOORS, Siemens Polarion, Siemens Team Center etc.
- Experience with wireless network deployment, wireless LAN controllers and an appreciation of networking in a dynamic environment.
- Experience of good programming practise including use of continuous integration/deployment pipelines.
- Experience of automation platforms such as Saltstack, Puppet, Ansible etc.
- Experience of programming in Python and Bash.
- Experience of working in virtualized and cloud-based environment
- Knowledge of ticketing systems g. Autotask, and associated processes.
- Rail or other transport industry experience.
- Degree in IT, communication systems or electronic engineering, or relevant experience.
