The Head of UK Construction is responsible for the governance of the Construction function within EMEAC Operations. This is a strategic role, providing stewardship and assurance in relation to construction procedures, systems and capability. It supports and compliments the Construction Managers and Senior Construction Managers allocated to projects and contracts throughout the UK business.
The role drives and assures delivery excellence in construction activity across the UK. Accountable for functional management and development of construction resources and governance of construction practices and procedures. Has functional oversight of the performance of all construction activity within the UK and has oversight of construction governance and stewardship.
Define and guide the growth, development and delivery of construction governance and stewardship within the UK, supporting the development of technical strategy and inputting to the related business plans and strategic imperatives.
The Head of UK Construction leads by example, consistently displaying and enforcing the Company’s values and behaviours, role modelling commitment to the highest standards of safe and ethical behaviour and creating an inclusive work environment., to ensure safe and reliable operations, on-time delivery of executed work, and client satisfaction. Will provide guidance and direction to the construction management and support teams in day-to-day management of technical delivery, ensuring appropriate governance and controls are in place and ensuring Wood is working to the highest possible standards of technical integrity and safety.
The role will provide and support solutions to complex strategic construction technical / operational challenges which impact our customer service and performance, in doing so improving the flow of lessons learned within the construction and commissioning function and coordinating / drive technical innovation, improvement and learning in EMEAC. Acting as a technical authority for the business and working closely with the Technical Delivery Managers for the UK business.
As an integral part of the weekly technical delivery directorate, this role will work closely with the other technical heads of function within the UK in addition to Project Controls, Supply Chain, Quality and D&T functions dedicated to the UK business. Specifically this includes:
- Deputising for the EMEA Head of Construction and Commissioning.
- Developing and retaining motivated and competent people.
- Driving construction innovation and best practice into the business.
- Undertake the role of UK construction and commissioning focal point for engineering processes and procedures.
- Active participation in UK graduate & trainee recruitment and development programme.
- Manage succession planning and assured delivery on behalf of the company.
**Construction Governance and Performance**
- Drive HSSEA culture and performance, with particular emphasis on site-based projects and HSSE input to design to minimise site risk Ensure the safe and secure delivery of projects and contract margin.
- Ensure that Construction Managers manage their scopes effectively in line with company policies and procedures and within the requirements of contracts signed by clients.
- Ensure that risk management process is followed on projects.
- Ensure that Project Management and Project Control personnel manage construction/commissioning scopes effectively in line with company policies and procedures and within the requirements of contracts signed by clients.
- Ensure construction/commissioning proposals and projects are resourced with suitably qualified personnel in line with the requirements of the proposal and the project.
- Manage and work within departmental overhead budgets, and manage utilisation of resources vs workload to minimise non-productive time.
- May act as a sponsor for allocated projects. Lead involvement of construction and field commissioning during home office and field operations.**Strategy and Development / Business Development**
- Provide support to the business development process to identify and win new work for the UK business.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for margin enhancement and support strengthening and deepening Woods excellence in execution.
- Lead development of the Construction Management System involving specialist system suppliers and other Discipline Heads.
- Provide construction & commissioning input to proposals to demonstrate capability and identify appropriate key engineering and construction resources.
- Drive compliance and adherence of Wood Operations Policies and Standards.
- Assist in Incident Investigations as required.
- Support EMEA Head of Construction and Commissioning and Operations Director in the delivery of Technical Improvement Road Map (TIRMs).
