Physician Associate

Blackpool, United Kingdom Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

What a great time to consider joining us in the Acute Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. It is a time of change, as we are in the process of transitioning to a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit which is due for completion in April 2024.

We are looking to develop our existing team and are seeking experienced innovative clinicians to join us. We see Physician Associates and other non-medical practitioners as a key component of our clinical team. This post holder will complement the other, well established Physician Associate on the ward.

The role of Physician Associate is an innovative new health care professional who, whilst not a doctor, works to the medical model with the attitudes, skills and knowledge base to deliver holistic care under defined levels of supervision.

The post is part of a multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients across the organisation. The post holder will be accountable for delivering compassionate, high quality patient care in keeping with the requirements of the department.

The post holder will be expected to work with the Stroke Medical Team to take forward best practice and be an ambassador for Physician Associates. The Physician Associate will work alongside doctors and nurses and other health care professionals (including a fellow Physician Associate) on the Acute Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit (ASRU) at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. They will be required to assess and examine patients, present findings, initiate and interpret investigations, and recommend treatment, exercising an appropriate level of autonomy when established in post. They will need to liaise with other professionals as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients. The PA will be supervised by a designated consultant with individual mentorship to overview career development.

We recommend that all individuals employed in patient facing roles, or those located on a ward or department where patients receive a service should be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
