Barnstaple, United Kingdom Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time

For more information on the Job Description and Responsibilities please click the link below. More detail about the role Newly formed in April 2022 by bringing together the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, our combined acute medicine units provide assessment and urgent treatment to a population of 615,000 and our specialist services to a wider population across the South West Peninsula. We are looking for consultant colleagues to join our team in acute medicine in North Devon, joining a team of forward-thinking doctors in a dynamic trust, able to effect changes in our service and make a real difference to the welfare of our patients. NDDH has an Acute Medicine Unit (AMU) of 26 beds and a newly developed Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) area.

SDEC is our way of innovating care, where we offer rapid access to diagnostics and procedures. Suitable patients are diagnosed and managed by experienced middle grade doctors and fully supported by a team of Advanced Care Practitioners. Building on our successes, we now wish to expand this service and increase our percentage of patients though same day care. Our ambitious Virtual Ward project was established in 2022 and we now hold 60 to 70 patients at any time.

We have a growing portfolio of conditions we can manage in this way. The Trust has an electronic patient record (EPIC), a multi-million-pound research facility, a significant development budget and big plans for the future. We are committed to offering genuinely workable job plans, recognising that acute medicine is a challenging specialty. As a consultant group we promote different working options, plus diverse portfolios, to make our jobs balanced and sustainable.

If you wish to discuss a job plan combining specialty work with acute medicine, then please do get in touch. We are based in Devon in the South West of England; a county renowned for its natural beauty, schools, infrastructure and quality of life. If you are interested in finding out more about the positions available, we would love to hear from you and would be delighted to host an exploratory weekend visit for you. We understand that relocating for a new role can be a significant step, both personally and financially.

This might include funding for a care certificate, a degree or leadership qualifications. Or it might include days off to study, engage in CPD or rotational placements to help you hone your skills. Wherever you are heading in the NHS, we'll help you get there. Looking after you is important to us.

We strive to help our staff create a healthy work-life balance through flexible working schemes and our family friendly policies. If you're starting out in the NHS, you'll start with 27 days paid annual leave (plus bank holidays), rising to 33 days plus bank holidays. You'll benefit from access to our own comprehensive occupational health services, including counselling, onsite wellbeing activities and groups.
