Job description - **Support Role for Adults with Learning Disabilities**

Line manager: -- Trainee Development Coordinator

Working closely with the training teams

**Starting salary**:£22,308 per annum (pro rata)

**Working Hours of Job**:25 hours per week

**Time**: 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday

**Holiday entitlement**:25 days per year (pro rata) plus bank holidays

**Summary of Job**:
This is a really rewarding role supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism and other physical and mental health needs (our trainees) participate in our workshop, fulfilling commercial work on a daily basis. You will work closely with the training and production teams to maintain a friendly environment in which trainees can develop their skills and participate in all activities on offer. You will work both 1:1 when required and in small groups to support trainees in the workshop.

**Key Tasks**

Trainee Support
- Actively support trainees to learn how to complete jobs in the workshop according to the instructions given and to the correct standard.
- Role model behaviour expected in the workplace and helps them understand how they need to behave in line with this including appropriate boundaries.
- Work with trainees using appropriate language, resources, structure and routine to support their individual needs.
- Supervise and support the trainee team to complete customer work in the workshop in small and large groups.
- Support trainees in their emotional development and in their relationships with others.
- Support trainees to develop independence.
- Encourage trainees to reach their full potential by helping them work on the goals they have set themselves.
- Use a variety of resources to support training and development of trainees including timetables and actions contained within support or behaviour plans.
- Develop small wellbeing activities as needed.

Daily Routines

Morning

Ensure trainees have signed themselves in and followed the morning routine, welcoming them into the setting. This is a time of day where trainees can be unsettled if their morning has been busy and so it is important to have a lovely welcome in a calm environment.

Break Times

Support a trainee 1:1 to go round the workshop with the drinks list taking orders.

Support trainees making drinks.

Supervise trainees at break time playing games and engaging with each other.

Lunch (some lunch cover required also supported by other staff, your lunch is then taken earlier or later)

Support trainees where appropriate to warm up their lunch independently. Supervise and engage to socialise, chat and play games.

End of day for trainees leaving early

Ensure trainees have signed themselves out and have all their belongings with them, going onto the correct transport or other mode of going home.

Workshop
- Help set up the workshop to organise customer work into activities. This may include helping re-stock, setting up production lines and organising the space.
- Ensuring at all times the workshop is tidy and well maintained and each product and piece of work is checked for quality.
- To maintain a safe working environment for trainees, including taking an active role in monitoring the safety of the working environment.

Additional Duties
- Adhere to and promote company policy and procedures and support trainees to do so.
- Work flexibly as part of a small team of staff to ensure that Paperworks runs smoothly and efficiently; use initiative and contribute to team planning.
- Work in a person-centred way.
- Take part in staff training to update knowledge.
- Promote and uphold the privacy, dignity, rights, health and wellbeing of the individuals supported and cared for within the service.
- Any other reasonable task commensurate with the post.

**Knowledge**

First Aid certificate or willingness to gain a qualification D

Knowledge of Health and Safety regulation D

Knowledge of outside services for people with learning disabilities, D mental health issues, and autism

**Skills and Experience**

Experience of working or living with people with learning difficulties, D mental health or other needs

Experience of delivering training or supporting others D

Ability to communicate at a range of levels E

Excellent written and verbal communication skills E

Ability to use initiative E

Ability to work as a team E

IT skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft D
