**Job summary**:
His Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Clyde is the single operational home of the Submarine Service and is the United Kingdom’s Submarine Centre of Excellence. This provides excellent opportunities for commencing and developing exciting and challenging careers within the Civil Service across a broad range of functions and numerous skill sets in direct support of output delivery.

HMNB Clyde is an operational support and maintenance base within Navy Command and comprises both Faslane and Coulport sites. The primary purpose of the Naval Base is to provide engineering and logístical support to the Royal Navy in maintaining Continuous at Sea Deterrent. This is achieved by ensuring at least one Vanguard Class submarine is on patrol at sea every day of the year. RNAD Coulport is responsible for the storage, processing, maintenance and issue of the Trident Weapon System and the munitioning of submarine-embarked tactical weapons.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
To ensure the continuous availability of a safe and secure Deterrent, the Safety Assurance team provides independent safety advice to the Authorisee which ensures robust processes and practices undertaken. The Directorate of Safety Assurance (DSA) is responsible to the Authorisee for providing assurance of compliance with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements for Nuclear and Weapons Ordnance Munitions & Explosives (WOME) Authorised Activities undertaken at Clyde.

The Ordnance Assurance Inspector delivers this by leading and undertaking a programme of combined Authorisation Condition (AC) and Warships in Harbour inspections, ensuring that relevant good practice described within ONR/DNSR Technical Assessment Guides (TAGs) and Technical Inspection Guides (TIGs) are considered.

This role works with 5 members of ordnance assurance on behalf of Weapon Safety Assurance Asst Head

**Responsibilities**
- Undertake audit/inspections in accordance with relevant compliance arrangements.
- Provide formal and informal advice to key stakeholders
- Surveillance during Submarine Tactical Weapon Systems activities at HMNB Clyde berths
- Act as a member of the Weapons Safety Assurance team undertaking assessment of installation, maintenance, and commissioning activities
- Undertake assessment of Nuclear and WOME safety justifications
- To record, manage and assess the notification and investigation of Nuclear/ WOME incident reports
- Regulatory engagement
- Promote a safety culture that utilises Learning from Experience
- Provide Safety assurance at committees and authorisation groups

**Person specification**:
To assess and monitor Nuclear Weapon(NW) & Weapons Ordnance Munitions & Explosives (WOME) activities at HMNB Clyde, assuring that they are conducted safely via the management and conduct of a programme of compliance audits / inspections as detailed within the DSA Intervention Strategy including surveillance during Submarine Tactical Weapon Systems activities at HMNB Clyde managed operational berths.

As a member of Clyde Nuclear Safety Committees and Authorisation Groups, undertake detailed assessment of Nuclear and WOME safety submissions and subsequent installation, commissioning, examination, inspection, maintenance, testing and operating procedures to gain assurance that the proposed activities can be conducted safely.

To act as the lead for all NW and WOME incident reports, ensuring that appropriate investigation and event close out is managed in accordance with HMNB Clyde policy (Authorisation Condition 7 Arrangements) whilst promoting a Safety Culture that utilises Learning from Experience.
