- Job description- We have an exciting opportunity in our Thameside Asset Performance Team in Essex, as a Technical Advisor.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership, support and guidance to our Catchment Leads within the team. This will be with regards to the management of our flood risk assets, the health and safety of our teams, and how we manage incident response within the Thameside area. By working together, our goal is to make sure our assets are properly maintained and operational.
As well as technical leadership, the role requires project, programme and Senior User skills as it involves working with the Thames Estuary Asset Management 2100 Asset Management team and Assets Below Required Condition (ABRC) sub-programmes for our flood risk management assets.
The Thameside Asset Performance Team covers flood risk management assets on tidal and fluvial main river watercourses in the south Essex area, including parts of the Thames estuary. Key geographies of the area are Canvey Island, with its major fluvial pumped catchments and three major tidal barriers, large population centres in south Essex including Southend, Basildon and Rochford, as well as many more rural areas on the Crouch and Roach estuaries - a dynamic and interesting mix of rural and urban locations.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team- As a Technical Advisor within the team, you will work closely with other Asset Performance Teams, as well as our Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology Teams, Field Operations, and Mechanical and Engineering Teams. You will also liaise with our external stakeholders and contractors regularly.
It is a close-knit group and everyone starting in a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed.
- Experience/skills required- Essential:

- The ability to organise and prioritise workloads in an ever-changing environment.
- The ability to work to strict deadlines and make decisions.
- Able to work independently but with an ability to lead, work in teams and bring teams together.
- A desire to learn and develop.
- Good communication skills - written, verbal and an active listener
- Driving licence

It would be helpful, but not essential, if you had:

- Previous project management experience.
- Previous programme management experience.
- Experience in flood risk management and/or asset management. However, you will be given all the training and support you need
- An appreciation of health and safety of flood risk assets
