Bookshop Volunteer

Woodstock, United Kingdom Save the Children UK Full time

The Save the Children Bookshop in Woodstock is entirely dedicated to the selling of books, along with maps, sheet music, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records and audio books. If you have an interest in any of these items, or would simply like to support a worthwhile charity, you will find yourself amongst likeminded volunteers who will help to make your volunteering experience something very special. You’ll get the chance to meet new people, make friends and learn new skills, plus you’ll be part of an amazing team of volunteers that raises money directly for Save the Children to support projects in the UK and in many countries abroad.

There’s so much for you to get involved in when you are volunteering in our shop. We get lots of donations of books and it's always exciting when one of our volunteer’s spots something a bit special. Don’t worry if you haven’t had any experience of working in a shop because we will give you training and let you build up your skills and knowledge in your own time. We will show you how to process the donations which includes sorting, cleaning and valuing. Other responsibilities include tidying and restocking the shelves to ensure that the shop always looks at its best.

Serving customers with a smile is always important. We get to know a number of our customers very well and are able to tell them when we might have an item in stock that may be of interest to them You’ll be using the till (don't worry, we'll show you how) and handling money. And when people come in to donate items, you'll also be helping them to complete the Gift Aid forms that allow us to claim tax back from the Government - a valuable part of our income

Our window displays draw in a number of our customers. If there is a special display that you would like to do, let us know and we can put stock aside for it, as well as offering advice, finding props and providing help with the display.

It would be ideal if you could volunteer for one shift a week, which is about four and a half hours. No special skills are needed as we’ll show you what to do and we provide all the training you’ll need. But if you have any previous experience or particular interest tell us as it may come in useful. It’s really easy to get your volunteering started. If you're over 18 years old, just click on ‘Apply’ and get filling in your details
